How do our Secure Discs work?
No software necessary
When
an AutoSave Encrypt or Verbatim SecureSave disc is inserted into a recorder, its embedded internal
software application launches automatically, no installation is necessary. To use it, you simply enter your password using your keyboard. The self-recording technology then guides you through a wizard which allows you to select the files you want to record, password protect and encrypt. All temporary files can be deleted after reading or burning and the software leaves no trace of their path on the PC.
The Technical bit
The Software encapsulates the selected files and folders in a 'SAFE' file. A "Safe" is created for each recording session and includes all files and directories you've selected. Its internal structure consists of two parts: One part that controls the encrypting (EC) and another part that contains the data (DATA). The DATA part is formatted as a FAT file system, fully compatible with Windows. The encryption algorithm used is the standard AES-256 bit in Cipher-Block Chaining mode (CBC). The main keys are created from the password you defined using a random dispersion function that uses the hash algorithm SHA-256.
The maximum length for a password is 64 bytes (255 characters), special characters are accepted and even recommended. All data in the "SAFE" file are coded with a random function that is always variable on the whole file.
As an added security function you can permanently erase all source files from your PC using the 'Wipe' technology which leaves no trace of the original file on the hard disk and makes it impossible to restore.
